Las 100 canciones más grandes de la música country ya están
ubicadas en un ranking votado por un panel de expertos. Country2.com participó
de la selección aportando una de las miles de opiniones que fueron
consideradas. En un programa especial grabado en el Centro de Entretenimientos
Gaylord, Trace Adkins, Chris Cagle, Glen Campbell, Deana Carter, Ray Charles,
Kenny Chesney, Sara Evans, Vince Gill, George Jones, American Idol's Kimberley
Locke, Martina McBride y Marty Stuart cantaron sus versiones de las 12
principales canciones. Brad Paisley LeAnn Rimes fueron los conductores
y Steve Wariner fue el director musical del espectáculo. El especial
de CMT con las imágenes de este gran acontecimiento es reproducido
por la cadena durante todo el mes de Junio.
La canción elegida entre todas las canciones fue "Stand by
Your Man", grabada originalmente por Tammy Wynette compuesta por la
propia Tammy Wynette y Billy Sherrill en 1968. Habla de la lealtad de la
mujer hacia su hombre y algunos la han considerado incluso como un himno
antifeminista. Otros la consideran una simple canción de homenaje
a la familia y especialmente al matrimonio. Han hecho versiones de este
tema, Dixie Chicks, Elton John y Lyle Lovett entre otros.
